The Forbidden Book… Lost Forever?

Dear Christian,

If you want to make history with us, then let me tell you how you can own 1 of only 100 hand-numbered, limited edition luxurious calfskin leather versions of the 1599 Geneva Bible.

But first, I’ll give you a little background on this amazing version of the Bible...

In 2003, the Vallorani family set upon an ambitious project to bring the Bible of the Pilgrims back into print for the first time since 1599. The Geneva Bible, originally printed between 1560-1599, is unique among all other Bibles. It was the first Bible to use chapters and numbered verses, and became the most popular version of its time because of the extensive study notes included to explain and interpret the scriptures for the common people.

The King (James I) was displeased by some of these notes, particularly as it pertained to the right of Christians to challenge tyranny and stand up to big government. The Geneva Bible quickly became the Forbidden Bible. In an effort to censor these Scriptural explanations and settle himself as the authority on what Scripture intended, he demanded a government “authorized” version of the Bible be written –– without the notes with which he disagreed.

Many who adhered to the Geneva Bible were persecuted, and even found themselves traveling across high seas to unknown and uncharted lands. When the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock that cold winter day, it was the 1599 Geneva Bible that was carefully studied to develop laws for this new colony.

The 1599 Geneva Bible is the Bible of America.

Think about it. With the exception of the dusty archival rooms of a few museums, the very Bible that the Pilgrims brought to America on the Mayflower could have been lost to the public forever. In it’s place would be the government authorized King James Version. While the King James Version of the Bible is also an excellent translation and a treasure in its own right, it does not have the revolutionary study notes the Reformers wrote for the Geneva Bible. Nor is it a Bible by the people, for the people. It was a government-sanctioned project.

The Vallorani family felt the call of God to restore this beautiful edition of His Word, and subsequently, they put everything on the line to make it happen.

After securing a loan by mortgaging his family home, Brandon Vallorani and his father Ray founded Tolle Lege Press and began working diligently on the restoration project. A team of experts with all of the skills needed to conquer this massive project were recruited and put to work. The process was painstaking. It took three years of research, assembling, typesetting, proofreading, layout, and even more proofreading by one of the premier Bible proofreading companies in the world before finally going to print in 2006. The goal was to ensure that the restored edition was word-for-word accurate with the original. Only spellings and type were updated to make it easier for the modern reader to read.

The Bibles finally began rolling off the presses and shipping to customers in November 2006. They sold out immediately, and the Vallorani family went back to print for a second time. Since 2006, a variety of editions of the Geneva Bible have been produced: A leather-bound family edition, the 500th Commemorative Luther Edition, a Calvin edition, and our most popular to date, the Patriot’s Edition.

Once again, sadly, the Geneva Bible is out of print.
We have limited stock in our warehouse, but they will be sold out in a few weeks.

Feeling the call of God once again, the Vallorani family is raising funds to print 10,000 more 1599 Geneva Bibles. Half will be bound in leather and the other half will be hardback.

To raise funds for this next printing, we are making available 100 hand-numbered, limited edition luxurious calfskin leather versions of the 1599 Geneva Bible.
